Why I'm running for Nevada State Controller:
One of the primary responsibilities of the state controller is issuing the state's annual financial report. Well, the most recently issued annual financial report for the state of Nevada is the 2023 report. It was released some 400 days after the close of the fiscal. The 2024 report still hasn't been released; it is now more than 600 days past the end of the fiscal year.
We are often told by conservatives that government should be run as a business. Well, if you're a Forture 500 company you release your annual reports within 60 days after the year end.
Clearly, the incumbent is not doing his job. Yes, there have been problems with the software, but if you don't have a background in accounting and computers how could you possibly solve this problem? Well, I do have that background, so I think I can do a much better job than all of the other candidates for this office because they don't have the qualifications and experience necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this office.
Why is having an up-to-date financial report important? The state issues bonds to cover its obligations. Without a current financial report the buyers of those bonds demand a higher interest rate in order to compensate for the unknown risks caused by not having current financials. As a result, the state pays more interest than it would otherwise have to. So, millions of your tax dollars are being wasted.
Vote for me so I can solve this problem -- and save you money.
